Joey Savoie snatched victory at the Dominican Republic Tour Championship, not only winning a tournament but also securing his ticket to the 2027 Korn Ferry Tour. What a dramatic comeback that propelled the Canadian into the spotlight on Sunday, October 18! With a 5-under 67 on the final day, he played his way to 14-under par and triumphed by just one stroke at PGA Ocean’s 4.
The 32-year-old made a huge leap in the PGA Tour Americas season standings, rocketing from 12th place directly to fourth. This is the stuff golf fairy tales are made of: Savoie overturned a two-stroke deficit and played his last 45 holes completely bogey-free. That's incredibly strong and shows that true champions shine under pressure.
The Road to the Top: KFT Cards Awarded
But Savoie isn't the only one celebrating. Ten players have secured promotion to the Korn Ferry Tour for 2027 through their performances on PGA Tour Americas. Thomas Ponder, Corey Pereira, Étienne Papineau, Joey Savoie, Patrick Flavin, Charlie Crockett, Justin Biwer, Jack Lundin, Charlie Nikitas, and Patrick Sheehan – remember these names, because they mean business! Thomas Ponder, as Season Champion, claimed the No. 1 spot in the points standings.
Canadian Connection on Tour
What's particularly cool is that Joey Savoie and Étienne Papineau, two old friends and neighbors from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, have made the leap together. They are the only Canadians in the top 10 and will be teeing it up side-by-side on the Korn Ferry Tour next season. For many of them, seven of the ten promoted players, it's their first time on the KFT – a clear sign of how well PGA Tour Americas serves as a springboard to golf's elite tier. Savoie’s final day, a 5-under round, was not just the tournament victory, but an eight-position jump directly into the promotion zone. That's a finish straight out of a screenplay!
