As darkness fell over the Delhi Golf Club, Angel Hidalgo, Joost Luiten, Adrian Meronk, and Thomas Detry shared the lead at the DP World India Championship – all at a stunning eight under par. A true battle for the top is brewing, as weather disruptions turned Friday into a marathon day, leaving the field under immense pressure. This setup promises a thrilling finale on one of the Tour's most challenging courses.
Adrian Meronk, who recently claimed the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, showed his form is exceptionally strong, posting rounds of 67-69 (136 total). He held the outright lead temporarily but suffered his only dropped shot of the week on the ninth hole – a dramatic moment given the tight leaderboard. Angel Hidalgo, fresh from a second-place finish at the FedEx Open de France, which secured his spot in the DP World Tour Play-Offs, joined him with two rounds of 68 (also 136). Joost Luiten, who played an incredible 34 holes on Friday after Thursday's storm-related delay, also posted back-to-back rounds of 68. Thomas Detry reached eight under par after three birdies on his first six holes of the second round, but his round was suspended after seven holes and remains provisional.
Chasing the Leaders
Immediately behind the leading quartet, a strong chasing group lurks, just one shot back. Eddie Pepperell, Todd Clements, and Eugenio López-Chacarra are all at seven under par, with López-Chacarra still having several holes left to play. For him, it's about more than just the tournament win; he is also chasing a top spot in the Race to Dubai, which adds extra spice to the contest. The local heroes are also in contention: Om Prakash Chouhan is provisionally positioned as the leading Indian at four under par, while Anirban Lahiri comfortably made the cut with rounds of 70-73.
Chaos on the Course
The tight leaderboard and fragmented rounds are no coincidence but a direct consequence of the weather drama. On Thursday, severe thunderstorms and torrential rain halted play for almost five hours. The 6,912-yard (6,320-meter) Par-72 layout of the Delhi Golf Club became a true challenge that demanded everything from the players and shook up the field considerably. This creates a gripping situation that we will, of course, keep an eye on for you.
