Chaos on the Green: Local Hero Grace Chases DeChambeau – Team Throne Wobbles in South Africa! JOHANNESBURG – Folks, hold on tight! LIV Golf South Africa is truly heating up this weekend. The home team Southern Guards GC are in action and determined to sweep both trophies here. It would be a true fairytale for the fans – but the competition on the leaderboard is fierce and intent on preventing that. Currently, the Southern Guards are in second place in the team standings after two rounds, two strokes behind the dominant Torque GC. And individually? The club's top player, Branden Grace, is truly performing! After 36 holes, he is tied for second place, just two strokes behind the leader, Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau, who yesterday (Friday) shot a 6-under-par round (65 strokes) to reach 14-under overall, and Grace, who climbed to 12-under par with a round of 66, will tee off on Saturday in the final group with Fireballs GC's David Puig (-12) – for the second consecutive day! The Crushers GC captain had a breathtaking start: On the par-4 1st, he carded an eagle with his second shot, immediately followed by a 9.45-meter (31-foot) birdie putt on the 2nd. Four birdies and a bogey followed over the next nine holes, before he recorded a double bogey on the par-4 12th. The chasers breathed a sigh of relief! But the 'Mad Scientist' wouldn't be the 'Mad Scientist' if he didn't immediately counter: Two birdies on the last three holes and he had the sole lead. "It felt like it easily could have been a 9 or 10-under round today, with the way it started," DeChambeau stated. The man is on fire! He is chasing his second consecutive victory, having already secured the Aramco LIV Golf Singapore title in a playoff last week. Truly impressive! Branden Grace was bogey-free for the first 14 holes and was 5-under par, before a bogey briefly slowed him down. But the local hero was not discouraged and delivered a sensational tee shot onto the green on the par-3 17th – the legendary 'Lion's Den' hole with its infamous party atmosphere – that landed very close to the pin. Grace's teammate Dean Burmester also posted a stellar 7-under-par round (64 strokes), which he shared with Puig as the best round of the day. Burmester is tied for fourth place with Jon Rahm, Abraham Ancer, and Charles Howell III. (all at 11-under par). "Listen up... I want to win this thing," Branden Grace shouted into the cameras. All of South Africa is behind you, lad! In the team standings, the Southern Guards are well in contention at 34-under par overall. But Joaquin Niemann and his Torque GC have turned it on and moved to the top of the team leaderboard with an incredible 22-under-par performance yesterday (Friday) – 36-under par total! Abraham Ancer, Niemann, and Carlos
