DeChambeau Hunts Masters Green: Top Form & Omen

Golfers, take note! The Masters is just around the corner, and one name whispers louder through the pines than any other: Bryson DeChambeau. The "Mad Scientist" is red-hot, and the stars seem to be aligning for him at Augusta.

He is in top form, having claimed the last two LIV Golf tournaments in a playoff – for the first time since 2018, two consecutive victories! DeChambeau speaks of his "Sphere of Dominance," where he completely controls his game. Remember his incredible 61-58 (21-under) in the LIV Golf Greenbrier final? He says his game is as sharp as rarely before, even better than during his second U.S. Open victory. He chases that feeling from back then, when he shot the 58 – "like a video game."

Has the Masters Code Been Cracked?

The numbers don't lie: Last year, he clinched fifth place, his best Masters result ever. Before that, he led after Round one with a 7-under 65, was co-leader after 36 holes, and ultimately finished sixth. He is starting to read Augusta National like few others. And then there's the age! When the Green Jacket is awarded on Sunday, Bryson will be 32 years and 208 days old. The average age of the previous 89 winners? 32 years and 192 days. Coincidence? We don't know, but it's damn close! In fact, no other player in the 91-man field comes closer to this average age benchmark.

Nevertheless, Augusta National is a fickle beast. A tree on the 585-yard par 5 second hole suddenly standing differently, a gust of wind, or an unfavorable bounce – anything can change everything. Bryson tirelessly refines his game, especially with his irons and wedges, which have often caused him headaches here. He now lays up on the 350-yard par 4 third hole, instead of carrying the bunkers. During his victory over Jon Rahm at LIV Golf South Africa, he even tested self-built wedges. Equipment wizard!

Karma and the Bare Numbers

Speaking of karma: Last week, he consoled 17-year-old Asterisk Talley after her dramatic finish at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur – a true gentleman's move. He told her that the result wouldn't define her, just as his own result from the previous year – a final round of 3-over 75 at Augusta National – wouldn't define him. This empathy, combined with the emotions and support that carried him to two victories in South Africa, could be exactly what he needs this week. And another omen? His caddie Greg Bodine wears bib number 12 – one of the most successful numbers in Masters history! Last year it was 89... We are excited.
