The chips are down for LIV Golf, but for Bryson DeChambeau, a truly big opportunity could now open up: The DP World Tour is rolling out the red carpet for him, offering the "Mad Scientist" a direct playing spot for 2027. A true game-changing offer, while LIV Golf is reportedly on the brink of collapse because its funding is drying up. This is DeChambeau's chance to firmly re-enter professional golf, without qualifying struggles or relying on sponsor invitations.
The key to this Category 1 membership? His triumph at the 2024 U.S. Open. According to DP World Tour regulations, this Major win secures him the coveted status for 2027. DeChambeau would thus be the only LIV-affiliated player to gain this special exemption. Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith also qualify through Major wins, with Rahm having already committed to playing full-time on the DP World Tour in 2027. Now, DeChambeau just needs to submit his application by November 14th or 16th.
PGA Tour Comeback – The Rocky Road
A direct comeback to the PGA Tour is not yet connected with this step. DeChambeau had passed up the PGA Tour's "Returning Member Program" for 2026, which Brooks Koepka accepted. This window is closed, according to Tour boss Brian Rolapp. Reports even speculate about a possible one-year PGA Tour ban, which could end no earlier than August 23, 2027, should he not compete in any further LIV events. However, the exact penalty is still unclear.
Why the Offer is So Crucial
This is precisely where the DP World Tour comes in. A very strong 2027 season could secure him one of the ten PGA Tour Cards for 2028 through the "Race to Dubai" pathway. It would be his ticket back into the fight for the biggest titles – apart from the Major tournaments, where his playing spots are secure thanks to his 2024 U.S. Open win until 2034, and for other Majors like the Masters, PGA Championship, and Open Championship even until 2029. This is not a confirmation of his commitment, but a clear signal that DeChambeau remains engaged.
