Bombshell! LIV Golf: League Shuts Down After Five Years

After five years that turned the golf world upside down, it's over: The rebel tour LIV Golf is scrapping its planned revival. What had been hinted at for months became official on Thursday: LIV Golf is being wound down. A real tremor for the sport!

The news came after BC Partners Credit, the main investor in "LIV 2.0", pulled the plug. Reportedly, they simply couldn't convince the golf superstars to fully commit to pushing the project forward. In a statement, LIV Golf merely confirmed that the attempt to implement the so-called Restructuring Support Agreement with BC Partners had spectacularly failed. They simply couldn't agree on several crucial points, it was stated. Therefore, an "orderly wind-down" is now the most responsible path.

The statement confirms remarks by LIV attorney Matthew Williams, who clarified the situation on Thursday in a 13-minute hearing before the bankruptcy court in New Jersey. The once-lavish, Saudi-funded league, which had completely upended the PGA Tour's golf establishment with its superstar millions, will liquidate its remaining assets starting Monday. So the court heard. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) from Saudi Arabia had pumped an estimated $5 billion into the tour since 2022, before abruptly cutting off funding in early 2026.

LIV had officially filed for bankruptcy in September 2026, even though officials had vowed to launch as "LIV 2.0" next season with a shorter schedule, less prize money, and player equity stakes. BC Partners Credit had initially pledged a potential $300 million financial injection.

But then the shock: Several former LIV stars, including Jon Rahm, publicly withdrew from the revival in recent weeks. Many other golfers were reportedly on the fence. Even Bryson DeChambeau – arguably the biggest name among the defectors, who always loyally supported the Tour – couldn't publicly commit to a comeback. This was likely the final straw. The chapter of LIV Golf is thus probably definitively closed.
