“It’s all that’s at stake that keeps me going!” – this tough statement from David Law (35) says it all about the relentless battle many golfers fight on the DP World Tour. The Scot is teeing it up at the Open de España this week, his ninth consecutive tournament. The physical demands are immense, but the fear of losing his livelihood is a powerful motivator not to lose his tour card.
On the Brink on the Green
His start at the Open de España was all the more dramatic. Law opened with a round of 72 (one over par). During the round, he shone with a chip-in eagle on a par-5. But the last five holes showed how frayed his nerves are: three shots were lost. This rollercoaster ride highlights the pressure he is under.
Law’s recent form was enough to qualify him for the $3.75 million event. He is also confirmed for next week’s DP World India World Tour Championship. However, the season finale, the Genesis Championship in Korea, is still uncertain – another hurdle in the nerve-wracking race.
Everything on the Line
The picture is thus encouraging but extremely fragile. While Law is in the Top 100, his packed schedule and slim lead leave no room for error. It's no longer about motivation, but whether his body can endure the final crunch time. A true fight on the brink of exhaustion for the guys on the green.
