DELOFTED Golf Update: Singapore Showdown – Rahm, DeChambeau & Co. Hit the Gas! On a day where the Sentosa Golf Club truly came alive, four players – Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Richard T. Lee, and Lee Westwood – sit atop the crowded leaderboard! All of them carded a 4-under 67 – what an outstanding round! – in Round 1 of the Aramco LIV Golf Singapore. And because LIV Golf never rests, Round 2 is already upon us with rapid-fire action! The tee times for the shotgun start have been moved up to an athletic 8:05 a.m. local time (which is 1:05 a.m. CET on Friday for us!). For US fans, that means 8:05 p.m. ET on Thursday (or 1:05 a.m. CET on Friday). Jon Rahm once again demonstrated that everything is clicking for him right now. He seamlessly follows up on his triumph at the HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong. The captain of Legion XIII collected five birdies and only carded one bogey – a statement round! This puts him in a prime position to secure back-to-back professional victories for the first time since January 2023. Bryson DeChambeau, on the other hand, started somewhat cautiously, still even par after his first eight holes. But then the Crushers GC captain hit the accelerator! After birdies on holes 9 and 10, he finished his round with a flourish – birdies on his last three holes! What a finish! "This is a real challenge for our golf game; I just need to get a little bit better," DeChambeau stated. "I played well, finished strong, but I want to feel even more comfortable on the course." That Rahm and DeChambeau dominate the LIV Golf leaderboards is no surprise. But Richard T. Lee and Lee Westwood? Now that's a story! Lee, by the way, is the first Wild Card player ever to hold the lead in the LIV Golf League after a round. Truly impressive! Lee, who is competing as a Wild Card player, got off to a flying start: Four birdies on his first six holes (holes 6-11)! After that, he held his own, adding another birdie and a bogey. Westwood showed that he's still far from being past his prime. He built on his very strong performance from last weekend in Hong Kong, where he finished T18 in his season debut. The co-captain of the Majesticks Golf Club had previously battled a wrist injury, which caused him to miss LIV Golf Riyadh and LIV Golf Adelaide. But since his return? No sign of it! The man is fit! His bogey-free opening round was, by the way, one of only two on this unforgiving day – respect! "Yes, it was really tricky out there," Westwood confirmed. "This course takes no prisoners today. It was extremely tough, and the wind, of course, added another layer of difficulty. There were some really nasty holes where you truly had to commit to your tee shots and execute. It's cool to play such a challenging golf course."
