Michael Brennan not only claimed victory at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan but also defeated a red-hot Xander Schauffele – marking his second title of 2026 on the US PGA Tour. The competition was fierce at the Yokohama Country Club, but Brennan held his composure. With a final round of 68 (three-under-par), he finished at an impressive 16-under-par – one stroke ahead of American pros Jacob Bridgeman and Keith Mitchell. The 24-year-old celebrates his third PGA Tour win overall and second of 2026, having already triumphed at the Wyndham Championship in August.
Defending champion Schauffele, who also played exceptionally well with a final round of 67 (four-under-par), ultimately had to settle for a three-stroke deficit. The 2021 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist was in contention for a long time and right in the thick of the title fight – until a double bogey on the final hole dashed his hopes of victory. Ouch! Jacob Bridgeman was also hot on Brennan's heels until the final hole, just one stroke behind. Bridgeman had his sights set on a second consecutive title, having just won the Biltmore Championship in September. However, a missed birdie putt on the 17th cost him the opportunity. Brennan, on the other hand, held his nerve on the final hole and claimed the win. His final round featured a spotless scorecard with four birdies and only one bogey.
Local favorite Hideki Matsuyama finished at nine-under-par after another wild day in front of his home crowd. The 2021 Masters champion, Matsuyama, fired up with a flurry of birdies, sinking six over the first ten holes. But that impressive run ended abruptly with two consecutive bogeys on the back nine. Bitter. “If I had gotten to 13, 14, or 15 under par on the front nine, I would have been within reach of the leaders,” Matsuyama stated. “It felt a bit like a waste.”
Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth also played a Sunday round of 67, finishing at eleven-under-par. Spieth has been awaiting his next Tour win since April 2022 – but unfortunately, it wasn't his time yet. The 2024 Japan Champion and two-time major winner Collin Morikawa finished the tournament at six-under-par.
