Open de España 2026: Grant Forrest Triumphs – Cash Register Rings and Masters Calls!
Grant Forrest didn't just claim the title at the 2026 Open de España; he also pocketed a hefty sum of $637,500 – a true payday after a stellar round of 14 under par. The Scot snatched victory at the Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid after holing the decisive birdie on the final 72nd hole, thus keeping the competition at bay.
It was a fight to the finish, as Spain's Eugenio Chacarra and France's Victor Perez were just narrowly behind at -13 and had to settle for a share of second place. This earned them $412,500 each – not bad for second place! Chacarra had been in the lead after a five-under-par front nine, but Forrest held his nerve when it truly mattered.
What a Purse!
The total prize money for the event was an impressive $3.75 million, half a million more than the previous year, when "only" $3.25 million was awarded – showing the DP World Tour business is really thriving. In addition to the generous prize money, Forrest also received 835 valuable DP World Tour points, crucial for the season rankings.
Invitation to Legend Status
The triumph in Madrid is Forrest's first DP World Tour title outside his home country of Scotland and propels him directly into the ranks of the greats: He has secured invitations to the 2027 Masters and the 155th Open Championship at St Andrews – absolute dream destinations for any golfer. Shane Lowry was also in the field, finishing in a tie for 13th place, which still netted him around €47,217.
