Folks, that was drama on the green once again! Akshay Bhatia, our 24-year-old American talent, snatched a truly spectacular victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Florida. And who would have guessed? He had to go into a playoff again! Daniel Berger was the unlucky one who fell to him in the sudden-death decider. With this, Bhatia now boasts his third title on the PGA Tour – and all three he's clinched in a playoff. What a streak!
Things were already heating up all week at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge. Both pros finished at an impressive 273 strokes – 15 under par! Bhatia carded a final round of 69, Berger a 70. But the true game-changer? Bhatia's incredible comeback on the back nine! After a bogey on the ninth, where he briefly lost focus, he completely flipped the momentum. He was on fire!
"I lost focus there," he later admitted, discussing the botched putt. But that's precisely what fueled him: "After that, I played with anger in my belly." And in the playoff? He coolly capitalized on a bogey from Berger and sealed the deal.
This isn't a new feat for Bhatia, by the way. He clinched his very first victory on the PGA Tour in July 2023 at the Barracuda Championship – in a playoff against Patrick Rodgers, naturally. And his second triumph in April 2024 at the Valero Texas Open also went to a playoff, where he put Denny McCarthy firmly in his place. When the pressure's on, this guy is simply incredibly tough!
