Bernhard Langer carded a spectacular 6-under 66 on Saturday at the Furyk & Friends in Palm Coast, Florida, catapulting himself from 49th to T20. Even though the 69-year-old cannot defend his 2008 title, he shows that he is still a force to be reckoned with and that a stellar round like this is always within him. On Sunday, he'll be fighting for another top-10 finish.
The German veteran opened the tournament on Friday with a 1-under 71 on the softer Ocean Course at Hammock Beach, where many low scores were posted. But anyone who thought Langer would take it easy was proven wrong on Saturday. He is nine strokes behind leader Ryan Armour heading into the final round – but anyone who knows Langer knows he fights until the last putt.
Fighting Spirit Knows No Age
Langer holds the record for most wins on the PGA Tour Champions with 47 victories and has overcome many setbacks. An Achilles tendon rupture in early 2024 only briefly halted him before he promptly secured another victory in November of the same year. His goal of breaking the magical 50-win mark is still firmly in his sights, and he plans to compete next season, even when he turns 70.
Langer Delivers
The round of 66 is the best proof that while Langer may not be contending for victory every week, especially on longer courses with little roll, his ability to post a truly strong score and achieve a high finish remains unbroken. It is precisely this consistency and grit that make him a legend – and why the golf community celebrates him. A fifth top-10 finish in 2026 would be another exclamation mark from an evergreen performer.
