The Bank of Utah Championship has elevated the FedEx Cup Fall race to a new level, brutally intensifying the battle for the coveted 2027 Tour Cards. Austin Smotherman claimed victory, rocketing from 79th to 51st place, securing a substantial prize package while further tightening the Top 100 bubble.
Movement on the "In/Out" list was minimal yet dramatic: Billy Horschel made a crucial leap from 101st to 94th, re-entering the Top 100. Conversely, Tony Finau slipped out of the Top 100 to 104th, though his Tour membership is secure until 2027 via an exemption – the message for others remains clear.
The Race for the Top 60 Heats Up
Beyond the Top 100, there were also significant moves. Doug Ghim climbed from 89th to 58th after his runner-up finish, widely opening the door to the first two Signature Events in 2027. David Ford (from 158th to 124th) and Trace Crowe (from 147th to 117th) also showed strong momentum with their top-3 finishes. Kevin Streelman and Ben James also solidified their positions.
The Battle of Nerves Continues
The equation is simple: The Top 100 at the end of the FedEx Cup Fall retain their full PGA Tour status for 2027. And those who make it into the Top 60 gain access to the first two Signature Events next year. With only six events remaining, pressure is mounting massively, especially for the players hovering in the 90s and low 100s. One stellar round can change everything, a bad day can shatter a dream. This is pure golf drama.
