Austin Hitt has done it: With a brilliant victory at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, he secures the highly coveted PGA Tour card for 2027. Real drama unfolded on Sunday at the Federal Club in Glen Allen, Virginia, as Hitt shook up the field with a dominant 5-under 66-stroke round and claimed the title. After 78 starts on the tour, this is his first win – and the most important one yet.
Rise from Obscurity
What a run: Austin Hitt started the week at No. 22 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List. This meant he needed to gain at least two spots to even have a chance at the top 20 and thus promotion. But Hitt delivered in spades. His scores of 68, 62, 68, and a final 66 speak volumes. He finished the tournament at 20-under par (264 strokes) with a two-stroke lead over Blades Brown. This performance catapulted him to sixth place in the final points standings – well within the magical top 20. With this, he secured not only the victory but also a ticket to golf's biggest stage.
Nerves of Steel and a Timely Eagle
Sunday's decision was not for the faint of heart. Hitt began his final charge with a birdie on hole 2, followed up with more birdies on holes 8 and 9, and then truly made a statement with an eagle on hole 10. By then, everyone on the course knew: This guy means business. Another birdie on hole 14 sealed the deal and secured his hard-fought triumph. Blades Brown also showed a truly strong performance with a round of 69, but ultimately had to settle for second place and also a Tour card for the 2027 PGA Tour. At just 23 years old, Brown is, by the way, the youngest player to qualify for the PGA Tour via the Korn Ferry Tour – quite a statement!
Hitt collected $270,000 for his victory from the $1.5 million prize fund, thus exceeding the one-million-dollar mark in career earnings. While he must now face the PGA Tour reshuffles for the 2027 season, Ross Steelman, by finishing first in the final points rankings, has positioned himself even better and receives additional starts at THE PLAYERS Championship and the U.S. Open. One thing is clear: The 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season is now history, and a new star is born.
