Yosuke Asaji is on something of a homecoming this week at the International Series Japan, returning not only to familiar ground but also with a larger vision for the future of Japanese golf. The 32-year-old, who earned his place in the LIV Golf League last season via The International Series pathway, believes the time could be right for Japan to build a presence in the League if players continue to seize their opportunities.
"Of course, I would love to see a Japanese team in LIV Golf, like the Korean team," says Asaji, who is competing as a Wild Card player on LIV Golf. "For that to happen, Japanese players must continue to perform very strongly and prove themselves against the global field. I'm just focused on giving my best."
Back on the circuit that helped him break through, the 2025 Singapore Open champion started his weekend well at the Caledonian Golf Club. On Moving Day, he carded a 2-under 69, putting him at 5-under par overall for the tournament. This keeps him within striking distance ahead of the final round. While he was pleased to stay under par, the Japanese star still sees room for improvement. "I'm happy to have finished under par, but three bogeys were a bit disappointing," Asaji said. "There were many positives, but I know there's more to come."
One of his greatest strengths this week has been consistent play off the tee. This has provided him with the necessary patience and created many birdie opportunities. "I hit the ball really well off the tee today," he explained. "I knew if that continued, I would keep getting birdie opportunities. That helped me stay positive." Asaji, who earned his spot on LIV Golf via the International Series Rankings, is a big fan of this system. "The International Series gives all players a fair chance to develop. Those who play well can earn their way to LIV Golf. That's a real opportunity!"
He clearly enjoys the unique atmosphere at LIV Golf events. "Every event is exciting because it's a new experience," Asaji enthuses. "In Adelaide, the atmosphere was incredible – the music, the fans, I couldn't even hear my own shot! That was a really cool moment." With upcoming events like the trip to Club de Golf Chapultepec for LIV Golf Mexico City, Asaji wants to carry that momentum forward. "I'm looking forward to all the upcoming events. In Mexico, there's that famous bunker shot Tiger Woods played there in 2019. I would love to see that hole in person and maybe even try it myself!"
