Yannik Paul: Tour Card Gone – Comeback via Q-School?

Yannik Paul, the 31-year-old Heidelberg native, had to swallow a bitter pill at the Genesis Championship in South Korea. He started the week ranked 116th in the Race to Dubai standings – and you know: the golden rule states that only the top 115 players secure full playing rights for the upcoming season. His opening round of 79 (+8) unfortunately dashed all hopes of a late rescue and sealed the loss of his DP World Tour card. It doesn't get much tougher than that.

After this missed cut, Paul spoke candidly about his season, as expected – no excuses, just hard facts. He emphasized that the cut in Cheonan was just the tip of the iceberg. The entire season was marked by extreme fluctuations in form. "I had a slow start, then a good summer, and then things went downhill fast within three months... I belong here and simply didn't play well when it mattered most," he admitted unsparingly. He is "quite disappointed," and now it's: Off to Qualifying School! The path is rocky, but Yannik is a fighter.

What's behind all this? The man who dominated the Mallorca Open in 2022 already narrowly missed out on the Ryder Cup in 2023, despite finishing in the top 10 seven times that year. A fighter, through and through. But this year, things just went wrong. Slumps in form and nagging back problems made life difficult for him on the course, making top results scarce. Q-School is now his last chance: In the best-case scenario, a limited Tour Card awaits. But beware: This usually only means spots in tournaments where the big names are less likely to be playing – no easy mode to establish oneself permanently among the world's elite.

But Yannik Paul isn't giving up! Despite this bitter setback, his fighting spirit remains unbroken. The strategy for 2026 will be readjusted, and this missed cut is not a setback for him, but a turbocharger for even harder training. We golfers in Germany are keeping our fingers crossed that this talented Heidelberg native will soon be delivering one phenomenal round after another on the DP World Tour and showing us that he is truly strong and belongs on the Tour!
