Shinnecock Hills once again showed its teeth on Saturday – and the LIV Golf contingent truly had to grind it out at the 2026 U.S. Open. Only six of them remained in contention as the wind swept across the course, presenting new challenges to the field. It was a true test, and every shot had to be precise.
A tough third day in Southampton, New York, demanded everything from all players. The gusty conditions, in particular, made for challenging play and ensured even the best pros broke a sweat. By the end of the day, Legion XIII’s Tyrrell Hatton and 4Aces GC Captain Dustin Johnson were tied at 4-over-par, sharing 29th place heading into Sunday’s grand finale.
The LIV Contingent Leaders
Dustin Johnson carded a truly impressive round, shooting a 1-over 71, which, under these conditions, was almost a phenomenal performance. Tyrrell Hatton, on the other hand, had to settle for a 2-over 72 but still demonstrated his ability to handle the pressure. Both have proven they can tough it out, even when luck wasn't always on their side.
Canter and Niemann Join the Mix
Laurie Canter of Majesticks GC also impressed on the course with a 1-over 71 in Round 3. An absolutely solid performance that secures him a tied T38 position heading into the final day. He is joined there by Torque GC Captain Joaquin Niemann, who shot a 2-over 72 on Saturday. The starting position for Sunday is clear: a strong charge will be needed to move further up the leaderboard. The race remains exciting.
