Starting in 2028, Quail Hollow will secure its permanent spot in the brand new PGA Tour Championship Series, solidifying its status as an absolute hotspot on the golf calendar. The Truist Championship will become part of the Tour's elite league, which is massively revamping the regular-season calendar starting this year. This announcement, long anticipated, is now official.
With this inclusion, Quail Hollow is definitively positioning itself at the pinnacle of PGA Tour events, right alongside the Majors, THE PLAYERS Championship, and the postseason blockbusters. It was no secret that this event, which has been running since 2003, always had Signature-level potential. Now, it's becoming a reality.
Charlotte Remains a Gold Standard
This decision solidifies Charlotte's role as a fixture on the Tour calendar. Quail Hollow remains one of the most sought-after venues where the world's best players will compete. The Truist Championship thus joins a lineup of top-tier events already confirmed for the Championship Series, including the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Memorial, The Sentry, and the Travelers Championship. A total of eight of the 15 regular-season events for the new series are now known, as PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp recently revealed.
The Major Overhaul Rolls On
Inclusion in the Championship Series is just one piece of a gigantic overhaul that the PGA Tour is planning for 2028. Alongside this top-tier series, which is expected to later comprise 23 to 24 events (including Majors and team competitions like the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup), there will also be a Challenger Series and a completely revamped postseason with a season finale in a match-play format. The full schedule for 2028 will be unveiled on February 22, 2027. Until then, all we have is anticipation for what's to come – and the certainty that Quail Hollow will continue to deliver spectacular rounds.
