Singapore Open: Ham Leads into the Weekend, Surratt Chasing!

Golf action in Singapore! At the Singapore Open presented by The Business Times, LIV Golf star Caleb Surratt of Legion XIII shot a 2-under 69 on Friday and is T6, five strokes behind leader Jeongwoo Ham from Korea. Other LIV Golf players who are under par heading into the weekend include Luis Masaveu of Fireballs GC (T10, 4-under par overall), Peter Uihlein of RangeGoats GC (T19, 3-under par overall), and Josele Ballester of Fireballs GC (T28, 2-under par overall). LIV Golf Wild Card player Björn Hellgren is also T10.

Jeongwoo Ham Leads

Jeongwoo Ham carded a 3-under 68 on the challenging Serapong Course to move to 10-under par, building a two-shot lead over Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond. Jazz, who was champion on this course in 2019, shot a 66, while Gaganjeet Bhullar from India and Japan’s Tomohiro Ishizaka share third place, just one more stroke back. Bhullar and Ishizaka both shot 68s – in the fourth event of the Asian Tour season, which is also part of the International Series.

Ham started the day tied with Thailand’s Ekpharit Wu and maintained his momentum from yesterday, while Wu slipped back with a 75. The Korean has only played in seven Asian Tour events outside of Korea, with a best finish of a tied 29th place at the International Series Japan two weeks ago. The 31-year-old is on track to drastically improve that result this week.

“It wasn’t like yesterday, today I didn’t make many mistakes,” said Ham, who has been a professional since 2018. “Compared to yesterday, many putts didn’t drop, but I played patiently. I feel very satisfied now.” He made four birdies today, including on the par-5 18th, and recorded only one dropped shot on hole 15. He said: “In critical moments, I made the putts and capitalized on the opportunities. My iron play wasn't that good, my precision wasn't great, but I think I holed the putts in critical moments.” Although he has yet to secure a victory on the Asian Tour, he is a proven winner on the Korean PGA Tour, where he has triumphed four times. His most recent win there was at the Golfzon-Toray Open in 2024.

Jazz once again showed that he is back in top form, playing the exact golf that earned him this title seven years ago on his way to winning the Asian Tour Order of Merit title. “It’s great to be back here,” said the seven-time Asian Tour winner. “I’ve wished for and waited for the Singapore Open to be held here again. The last time I was here was for the 2020 edition. I wasn’t part of the 2022 edition. But I’ve really missed this place; the golf course is always in excellent condition. I mean, it’s one of the best golf courses in Asia and it suits me, so I can m
