The Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club delivered some truly big surprises this weekend, as the cut line was tougher than it's been since 1983 – and promptly caught some big names. Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, and Sungjae Im? All out of the competition after the second round on Friday separated the wheat from the chaff, with the cut line set at 2-under par.
The Relentless Cut Line Strikes
It was particularly tough for Rickie Fowler. After rounds of 70 and 73, he found himself at 3-over and missed the weekend. A true back-nine collapse on Friday was the turning point that knocked him out of contention. One wonders how you start a round with four birdies in six holes and then still give it all away.
Who Survived
While some stars faltered, others showed fighting spirit and secured their spot. Justin Thomas, Gary Woodland, Keegan Bradley, and Matt Kuchar are still in the competition and fighting for the win. Ludvig Åberg and defending champion Ben Griffin also made it past the tough cut line. That promises a truly exciting final in Fort Worth.
