Sergio García is reclaiming his future by securing his DP World Tour membership for 2027. With the announcement that he will compete in three more events this year, the veteran is boosting his tally to the required five DP World Tour appearances for 2026 – the minimum to regain full membership next season. This means we will see him at the Omega European Masters, the Irish Open, and the Open de España.
Comeback with a Statement
A clever move, considering García dropped his DP World Tour card in May 2023 after joining LIV Golf in 2022. The approximately 1 million dollars in fines he subsequently paid to put himself back in contention for the Ryder Cup already showed how important the European circuit is to him. García himself confirms the change of course and is quoted as saying: "I have already informed them that I will resume my membership next season."
Eyeing the Big Picture
His decision is not an isolated case, as the rumor mill is buzzing: The DP World Tour has apparently been signaling for some time that access for LIV players will become significantly stricter from 2027. García seems to have understood the Tour's poker face and prefers to take care of the eligibility rules himself, rather than hoping for repeated invitations. With a tied fourth place in Bahrain and a missed cut in Munich, he has already completed two starts this year – now it's crunch time.
