The bitter news arrives like an unexpected double bogey on the final hole: For Matti Schmid, what was likely the most successful year of his career has ended prematurely. The 28-year-old from Herzogenaurach broke his elbow in a fall – game over for several months. Schmid himself announced this via Instagram.
“I am stepping away from golf for a few months and will not participate in upcoming tournaments to fully focus on my complete recovery,” Schmid stated. “While it's tough to be sidelined, I’m staying positive and focusing on coming back stronger.” A true fighter, this man.
Notably, at the US Open in May 2026, Schmid had delivered one stellar round after another, narrowly missing out on victory and securing a very strong fourth-place finish. Most recently, the man from Herzogenaurach had been performing exceptionally well and had qualified for the season finale featuring the top 70 players.
