The second day in Memphis went flawlessly for the Major champion; eleven under par after 36 holes is a statement that puts significant pressure on his competitors. But while Scheffler comfortably heads towards the title, the rest of the Tour is nervously vying for a spot in the Top 50.
What a sensational round from Scheffler on Friday! With his 61, he not only equaled the course record but also extended his lead to an impressive eleven under par. This marks the fourth time on Tour that he has shot 61 or better – a clear statement. Directly behind him, Sungjae Im is trying to keep pace at eight under par, closely followed by Swedish rising star Ludvig Åberg at seven under par.

The real drama, however, is unfolding in the middle of the pack. Here, pros are fighting for the coveted top-50 spots in the FedEx Cup ranking, which secure a spot in next week's BMW Championship. Those who don't make it can write off their season. Some players have made significant ground: Ryo Hisatsune (now projected at 46th), Alex Noren (47th), and Sahith Theegala (48th) have given themselves some breathing room. Sudarshan Yellamaraju, despite starting in 57th, climbed the leaderboard with strong performances and is now in a much better position. Eric Cole is clinging to the 50th spot – pure nail-biting suspense!
Teetering on the Brink
Unfortunately, there are also some bitter pills to swallow on the wrong side of the bubble. Brian Harman, previously 65th, now drops to 51st – just one spot away from falling out. Michael Brennan (52nd), Matt McCarty (53rd), Maverick McNealy (54th), and Pierceson Coody (55th) will also need to perform exceptionally well this weekend to secure their spot. And then there's Jordan Spieth, who is off to a strong start at six under par. This is enormously important for him, as he needed at least a T23 finish to comfortably advance. The battle for every shot is an absolute must here, as the playoffs are unforgiving – the Top 70 start, the Top 50 advance. Every putt counts!
