The FedExCup Playoffs are set, and four rookies are shaking up the elite ranks – Kristoffer Reitan, Alex Fitzpatrick, Nicolai Højgaard, and Jordan Smith are having a strong year, as they all celebrate their playoff debut on the PGA TOUR. Starting Thursday, the real competition begins at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, and the excitement is already at its peak.
Reitan and Fitzpatrick are no strangers to the fast lane, having sensationally cemented their places in the top 20 of the FedExCup standings. Reitan at 18th, Fitzpatrick right behind at 19th. That's a strong statement! Højgaard also comfortably secured his spot in the field as 32nd, while Jordan Smith, at 64th, just barely made the cut for the Top 70. The pressure is palpable, as the field shrinks relentlessly: from 70 starters in Memphis to 50 at the BMW Championship and then to just 30 at the TOUR Championship.
European Power on the Tee
Reitan's development, in particular, is a story in itself. The Norwegian, who, like Fitzpatrick and Smith, comes from the HotelPlanner Tour, has performed exceptionally well in his rookie season. 14 cuts made in 19 starts, four top-10 finishes, and then the triumph at the Truist Championship – one stellar round after another. Even though a withdrawal at the Wyndham Championship briefly fueled rumors, he is definitely in and ready to contend for the title.
