Logan Reilly and Preston Stout achieved the seemingly impossible in Atlanta: They shattered Scottie Scheffler's ten-year-old scoring record at the East Lake Cup. With individual rounds of 7-under-65 at the notoriously famous East Lake Golf Club on Monday, the two college stars made golf history and left a huge mark on amateur golf.
It was pure drama on the green: Auburn sophomore Reilly delivered a phenomenal round with eight birdies and only one bogey, looking like the sole winner. But then he made a misstep on the 18th tee, had to save par, and thus opened the door for Preston Stout of Oklahoma State. The current amateur world No. 1 seized his opportunity with ice-cold precision, closing with three consecutive birdies to draw level – what nerves of steel!
Scheffler's Mark Broken
Scottie Scheffler's 66 at the 2016 East Lake Cup was considered untouchable. For ten years, this mark was the absolute gold standard that no one could reach or even surpass. The fact that Reilly and Stout both delivered rounds of 65 now is incredibly impressive and demonstrates the sheer depth of talent currently in college golf. Particularly piquant: Scheffler himself recently won the 2026 TOUR Championship on the same course – also with a final 65.
Teams in Contention
It wasn't just the individual players who shone. In the team stroke play, Auburn took the lead with 13-under-275, followed by Oklahoma State with 11-under-277. In the semifinals on Tuesday, Auburn will now face Arizona, while Oklahoma State will compete against UCLA. That promises match play action of the highest caliber!
