Reed Unstoppable in Golf Mecca: Qatar Masters Goes to Captain America!
Patrick Reed continues his golf cruise through the Gulf region, clinching victory at the Qatar Masters – with a two-stroke lead! What a finish on Sunday!
The American, who triumphed two weeks ago at the European Tour event in Dubai and contended for second place in a playoff last week in Bahrain, was red-hot from the start in Doha. He grabbed the lead right off the first tee!
“This little run I’ve been on – two wins and a second place – it’s just awesome!” Reed beamed. “To get two wins so early in the season, that’s really something special.”
Reed entered the final round with a two-stroke lead over Jacob Skov Olesen. And naturally, the two were paired together. But watch out: After the Dane sank a birdie on the first hole and Reed carded a bogey on the second, the tension was palpable – a tie for the lead!
Then Finn Oliver Lindell came out of nowhere and surged past both of them! Six birdies and only two bogeys on the first eight holes – what a start for him! But Lindell faltered on the 12th and 13th with two bogeys. And Reed? He seized the moment, gained crucial strokes on the 10th and 11th, and once again pulled ahead by two shots. Nerves of steel, folks!
“It didn’t look so rosy on the front nine,” Reed admitted. “To lose the lead like that and then flip the switch on the back nine – that was an incredible feeling, of course.”
Calum Hill, who had already shared second place with Reed last week, once again showed top form and secured the runner-up spot. An eagle on the tenth and then four consecutive birdies from the 14th – finishing with a round of 67, a truly strong performance! Olesen, by the way, was one under par on the back nine.
“Golf is really going well for me right now,” Hill said happily. “I did a lot of things right, and if I get into this situation again, I believe I can bring it home.”
Jacob Skov Olesen and American Johannes Veerman shared third place. The competition was fierce!
And then there was a true legend teeing off: Padraig Harrington! The 54-year-old three-time Major winner completed his incredible 500th DP World Tour event. And what a way to do it! Every round under par, finishing five under par and in a tie for 34th place. Chapeau, Padraig!
