Thomas Pieters and his LIV colleagues face perhaps the biggest test of their careers: The DP World Tour Q-School Final Stage is about nothing less than their future. The six-time DP World Tour winner and former Ryder Cup player lost his Tour card after four seasons with LIV and will be fighting for one of the coveted 15 spots for the 2027 season starting November 6 at Infinitum Golf, Tarragona.
This epic showdown in Spain is a direct result of the uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf's future in 2027, and a DP World Tour rule change that no longer allows players to be active on both tours. Other prominent figures such as José Luis Ballester, Elvis Smylie, and South Koreans An Byeong-hun and Mun Do-yeob are also competing to reclaim their place on Europe's top circuit. The field is also packed with veterans like Ross Fisher, Pablo Larrazábal, Marcel Siem, and Edoardo Molinari, making the spectacle even more intriguing.
The LIV Freefall
Not all LIV golfers were fortunate enough to even reach the Final Stage. Michael La Sasso, who only won the LIV Golf event in Indianapolis in August, already failed in the second round – a truly bitter exit for the 22-year-old. Yosuke Asaji also missed qualification by just one shot, and Luis Masaveu failed in the playoff. This demonstrates how brutally tough this Q-School is, where no name and no previous success is a guarantee for progression.
All In for a Card
With a total of 156 players battling it out over six rounds, the pressure is immense. Only the top 15 will secure a DP World Tour card for 2027, and with it, full status for the HotelPlanner Tour. This scenario is pure drama on the green, where every shot counts and dreams either shatter or come true. For many, this is their last chance to establish themselves on one of the major tours.
