Matti Schmid's dream of the PGA Tour Playoffs abruptly ended after the St. Jude Championship. At the St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee, which boasted a hefty $20 million purse, 28-year-old Matti Schmid only managed a tie for 47th place, while Scottie Scheffler dominantly claimed the victory.
With this result, it was clear: Schmid's journey to the BMW Championship in Missouri from August 20th to 23rd was over. Only the season's top 50 players compete at Bellerive Country Club. For the crowning finale, the Tour Championship in Atlanta, Georgia (August 27th to 30th), only the top 30 are allowed to compete.
At TPC Southwind in Memphis, Schmid posted a 282 over four rounds. Nevertheless, there was an absolute DELOFTED moment for the Regensburg native: On the second day of the tournament, he aced the fourth hole – his first hole-in-one on the PGA Tour! Truly impressive!
World number one Scheffler snatched the victory in Memphis. What a spectacular round! With an incredible 263 strokes over four rounds, he dominated the competition. Si-Woo Kim from South Korea (271 strokes), as well as Alex Noren (Sweden) and Sam Burns (USA) with 272 strokes each, only saw the US superstar's heels. This marked title number 21 on the PGA Tour for the four-time Major winner. And honestly, after a drought of over six months, he truly earned this one. Scheffler is back on track.
