PGA Tour 2027 Set; Match Play Revolution in 2028

The PGA Tour has finalized its 2027 calendar, simultaneously setting the stage for a radical overhaul beginning in 2028 – it's the bridge year to a match play revolution that will turn the entire playoff system on its head. Golfers, buckle up, because the Tour is diligently shaping its future, and it looks like a true game-changer.

The new year on the course starts briskly: The 2027 regular season runs from January 21 to August 29, packing a total of 33 events onto the schedule. The first tee shot will be struck at The American Express at PGA West, while the legendary Hawaii stops are absent from the early season this time. Instead, the Tour is relocating The Sentry to Torrey Pines and planning a Saturday final there, significantly shaking up the early calendar.

The 2028 Revolution Gathers Pace

However, the biggest announcement comes with an eye on 2028: PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp himself confirmed a completely new postseason structure. What awaits us sounds like pure drama: a two-week Match Play Tour Championship featuring 32 of the season's best players, who qualify via a points system. Instead of the classic FedExCup Finals, there will be a separate season champion determined before the major match play showdown. Discussions were intense.

Calendar Check: What to Expect in 2027

Beyond the major shifts, some heavyweights are returning or changing their slots. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is on the schedule, as is the Genesis Invitational, the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral, and of course, the Tour Championship at East Lake. The Masters is scheduled for April 8-11, 2027, and the Tour Championship for August 26-29, 2027. A highlight: The new LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational will debut on July 6-7, 2027, at Firestone Country Club in Akron – star power is guaranteed there.

The Tour isn't just planning cosmetic adjustments here, but a genuine fresh start. The 2027 season is therefore not just a competition for victory, but also a warm-up for what awaits us on the course from 2028.
