Nelly Korda could secure the LPGA Rolex Player of the Year 2026 trophy without even hitting another tee shot. What sounds like a bold dream for many pros is a tangible reality for the American. Her competitors would have to deliver superhuman performances to challenge her for the title.
Korda currently leads by a commanding 75 points over Haeran Ryu. The Korean, world number 3, hasn't competed on the LPGA Tour since the FM Championship in August. Ryu would now need to go on an incredible winning streak: either win three tournaments, or secure two victories, a second-place finish, and an eighth-place finish. Such a comeback would be unprecedented in the history books.
Mathematical Scenarios
Ryu is competing this week at the BMW Championship in South Korea and the Maybank Championship but is skipping the Toto Japan Classic. If Korda's lead does not drop below 60 points after the Toto Japan Classic, it's a done deal. Korda could then casually watch the final two tournaments – the Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican and the CME Group Tour Championship – from her couch. Other names like Jeeno Thitikul and Miyu Yamashita technically remain a mathematical threat, but would need to secure three and four victories, respectively, to overtake Korda.
Korda's Cushion
Korda herself hasn't touched a club in the last two months, since the start of the Asian Swing. But she didn't have to. Her start to the season was simply phenomenal: four victories, including the first two majors, and never finishing worse than second place in her first six starts. That's how you build an unassailable lead.
This would be Korda's second Player of the Year award, having already clinched the title in 2024, also two events before the end of the season. While the race isn't officially over mathematically, honestly, who would bet against Nelly's run? The CME Group Tour Championship could still be the deciding factor, but Korda's dominance simply amounts to a sensational season.
