The Moving Day at the World Wide Technology Championship was intense – and unfortunately not only in a positive sense for our Matti Schmid. After two really strong days that catapulted him to the top, he had to accept a setback today with a round of 71. From the top spot, he dropped down to 7th place, and now he is four shots behind the leader, Garrick Higgo. Phew!
Moving Day in Detail: Matti's Rollercoaster Ride
The round started promisingly, golf friends! Matti grabbed a quick birdie on the Par 5 – a dream start! But the luck didn't last long, as the first bogey of the tournament followed directly on the Par 3, caused by a bitter three-putt. Ouch!
Matti immediately fought back with another birdie on Hole 3. But the rollercoaster ride continued: On the 7th, he had to record another bogey, bringing him back to even par for the round.
After the turn, he tried to get back on track, securing birdies on the 10th and 12th. But the magical rhythm of the previous days just wouldn't kick in.
And as if that weren't enough, the bogey monster struck again on Hole 14 (Par 5). After that, there was unfortunately no birdie response, and so a 71 (-1) was on the scorecard at the end. A real battle!
Numbers Don't Lie: Matti's Moving Day in Analysis
- Score: 71 strokes (-1) – just short of the desired result.
- Birdies: 4 (Holes 1, 3, 10, 12) – There were bright spots!
- Bogeys: 3 (Holes 2, 7, 14) – This is where things went wrong.
- Overall after 54 holes: Total -18 – still really strong, but no longer at the top.
- Distance to Leader (Garrick Higgo): 4 shots – That's recoverable, golfers!
What Does Matti Say? A Challenge from the Day Before!
Matti after the round? Silence! Understandable after such a Moving Day. But we still have his statement after his fantastic round on Friday for you – and it shows what a fighter he is:
“We all know how important these tournaments are and how many extra points you can collect there. Furthermore, I want to compete against the best players on the best courses. That was, of course, the goal for the fall season. You need a really good week, and hopefully, I can achieve that here.”
This ambition is exactly what we need on the final day, Matti!
DELOFTED Conclusion: The Final Day Awaits!
Conclusion after Moving Day: Matti clearly had to give up ground. The bogeys and the lack of consecutive birdies ruined his plans today and hampered his usual top-level performance.
BUT, dear golfers: Nothing is lost! With a four-shot deficit, Matti Schmid is still well within striking distance. Anything is possible on the final day, and with a truly fantastic round, he can still secure a top result or even contend for the victory! We're keeping our fingers crossed!
