McIlroy Confident Ahead of Pebble Beach Title Defense

Rory McIlroy is back! The superstar is teeing off at Pebble Beach – and taking on Scheffler!

Rory McIlroy, defending champion and absolute superstar, is back in action! He's making his US PGA Tour season debut at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. And he's not just super confident in his game, but also returning to his tried-and-tested clubs. That sounds like a statement!

Last year, he clinched the victory here at Pebble Beach, triumphed at The Players Championship, and then – BOOM! – he completed the Career Grand Slam at the Masters. What a stellar round after another!

"My game feels really good. I'm coming here with a great feeling," Rory said, typically cool. But he's far from satisfied. "I want to keep going, I have more goals. There's still so much I want to achieve and win." A true champion.

And of course, that includes: defending his title at Pebble Beach. A preview of next year's US Open, which will be held right here!

"Last year was the perfect start to the new golf season here," McIlroy recalled. "I'm hoping for something similar this week." Sounds like déjà vu potential!

The five-time Major champion from Northern Ireland had opted for cavity-back irons in December at the Australian Open and two tournaments in Dubai. But now? Back to his roots, folks! This week, the tried-and-tested equipment is back in play.

"I've been experimenting a bit with different iron setups and balls, made a few equipment changes," he admitted. "But that experiment is over now. I'm back to the reliable irons I've played virtually my entire career." Phew, that was a close call! Sometimes, tried and true is golden.

"It just felt different, especially under pressure or when things got serious on the course. It just didn't feel as familiar as I would have liked." And we all know: feel is everything in golf!

The hunt for Scheffler is on!

Rory is still the world number two. Right behind American Scottie Scheffler, who claimed his 20th PGA Tour title last month at The American Express in the Californian desert. 20th title, folks! Now that's a statement.

"If I had to criticize myself last year, it would be the lack of consistency after the Masters," McIlroy analyzed candidly. "Some of that is understandable, but Scottie just had his 17th consecutive top-10 finish." Incredible, Scottie!

"He's relentlessly good," Rory enthused. "I'll never stop praising Scottie because he's incredible in what he does and how he does it." High praise from a competitor!

McIlroy even compares him to none other than Tiger Woods in his prime. Holy Moly!

"I've had strong streaks like that too, but I've always been a bit more inconsistent," Rory admitted. "I think anyone who wants to catch Scottie or even get close to him, m
