What a superb round! McIlroy posted a solid 68 (-4) on Sunday, finishing the tournament at a strong 15-under par. Two strokes behind winner J.J. Spaun, he secured 532 valuable Race to Dubai points. This isn't the first time he's narrowly missed out at Wentworth: it was his fourth runner-up finish on the iconic course since his victory there in 2014.
The Chase Is On
Before this week, Rory started with a substantial 839.76 points behind Reed – a deficit he more than halved with this finish. After Reed had to withdraw due to injury on Friday, the door was wide open for McIlroy in the battle for the season title. Now, the Northern Irishman is chasing his record-extending eighth Race to Dubai title, which would match Colin Montgomerie's record. The excitement is palpable!
Rory himself sees the title race as very much alive. "Yes, I'm excited. I have three more events until the end of my DP World Tour season," he revealed after the round. "I'm not sure what Patrick's schedule looks like, but I feel like I have enough opportunities." There's still a lot to play for!
