Masters Champion Reed Leaves LIV, Returns to PGA Tour!

PLOT TWIST! Patrick Reed bids farewell to LIV Golf and is making his homecoming to the PGA Tour

What an announcement! Patrick Reed, the 2018 Masters Champion, dropped a bombshell on Wednesday: He is leaving the LIV Golf League and is on his way back to the good old PGA Tour. It's expected to happen later this season – things are about to get serious on the greens!

“At heart, I’m a traditionalist, and I was born to play on the PGA Tour – that’s where my story with my wife Justine began,” the American announced on X. An emotional statement that will surely give many golf fans goosebumps.

The man who won the Masters in 2018 also announced that he will return to the US Tour for the 2027 season as a 'past champion member.' But the best part: He'll be allowed to compete in PGA TOUR events again later this year! ESPN knows more and reports that Patrick Reed will officially be allowed to tee off again starting August 25. That's almost a full year after he last competed in a LIV event. You can practically feel the excitement!

The 2018 Masters Champion had left the PGA Tour after joining the Saudi-backed and then controversial LIV League in June 2022. A move that caused quite a stir at the time.

Reed, who just won the European Tour's Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday – what a superb round! – explained on X that it was a family decision. He also emphasized to ESPN that he wanted to stay closer to his family. Call us cynical if you wish – but hey, family comes first, right golfers?

With this move, Reed follows five-time Major winner Brooks Koepka, who is also returning to the PGA Tour after his time with LIV Golf. The emergence of LIV had, as is well known, thoroughly shaken up the global golf scene – a true drama in several acts!

As a non-member, however, Reed will have to put in some serious effort this season: He must either qualify or hope for sponsor invitations to tee off at PGA Tour events. But for 2027, he can significantly improve his status: A win on the Tour or a top-10 finish in the European Tour's Race to Dubai would help him achieve this. So he's got his work cut out for him!

“I always saw myself coming back to the PGA Tour,” Reed told ESPN. “I know I have to fight my way back, and that’s fine by me.” Well, that sounds like a statement. We're excited to see how the story unfolds, folks!
