MacIntyre: Knee Ordeal, Yet in Tour Championship!

Like a knife in the knee – that was the reality for Robert MacIntyre as he battled through the most important playoffs of his career. A nasty Baker's cyst in his right knee, sustained during Scottish shinty, had been making his life hell since May. MacIntyre himself described the pain as if someone were stabbing him in the leg from behind – a nightmare, especially when reading putts or when he wanted to really unleash power in his swing.

This culminated in a painful withdrawal at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, where, after a disastrous round of 82 and unbearable pain, the plug had to be pulled. His knee simply wouldn't cooperate anymore, and continuing to fight seemed impossible.

More injury news: Robert MacIntyre has been dealing with a cyst on his right knee since May. Last week, it felt like someone was "stabbing me in the bottom of the hamstring." Forced him to WD. He got it from playing shinty back home. Played his way into the top-30 this week.

A Display of Fighting Spirit

But Bob MacIntyre is not a man who gives up easily. Just one week later, he was back in the field for the BMW Championship – with a swollen knee, but an even stronger will. And he delivered. With an absolutely stellar round of 65 on the final day, including five birdies on the last eleven holes, he shot himself from 36th to 25th in the FedEx Cup standings. An incredible feat that catapulted him right back into contention.

Flushing It

Bob MacIntyre came to the BMW Championship needing a really good week to make it to the Tour Championship. He just shot a final round 65, making 5 birdies in the last 11 holes, to currently sit T7 for the week and climb comfortably inside the top 30 to make it to East Lake.

Rich Rewards

This incredible fight truly paid off: Not only did he secure his ticket to the Tour Championship for the third time in a row. On top of that, he earned a lucrative two-year PGA Tour exemption and guaranteed spots in next year's Masters, U.S. Open, and Open Championship. And the PGA Championship? That's as good as certain too. Bob MacIntyre has shown that he possesses not just clubs, but a true fighter's heart.
