Folks, hold on tight! Lydia Ko once again proved she belongs to the absolute elite at the LPGA Ford Championship. With an unbelievable 12-under-par round of 60 on March 26th, she delivered a start that left the golf world in awe. She was just one stroke shy of Annika Sorenstam's historic tour record – the magical 59!
A Birdie Showcase of the Highest Caliber
What a sensational round! Lydia Ko conjured up twelve birdies on her scorecard, without a single bogey. A true birdie fest, which she began on the 10th and ushered in with four consecutive birdies. Towards the end of the round, another four followed in the last five holes – a phenomenal stretch! Sure, the dream of the absolute LPGA record, the magical 59, shattered on the par-5 seventh hole (her 16th), when a birdie putt for par was left short. But honestly, a 60 is incredibly strong too!
Firmly in Control of the Lead
Currently, Ko holds a one-stroke lead over Hyo Joo Kim, who also carded an 11-under-par 61. Nelly Korda is in third place with a 9-under-par 63. The Cattail Course at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona, a par-72 course, is hosting the Ford Championship for the second time. Lydia Ko, a three-time major champion and already a Hall of Famer, is seeking her first victory since the 2025 HSBC Women's World Championship – and appears poised to claim it here. Ko herself remains relaxed: "I'm happier with a 60 than disappointed it wasn't a 59." That's championship mentality! Her game is clicking, as she hit an impressive 94.4 percent of greens in regulation and needed only 25 putts. We eagerly await what comes next!
