The Texas Children's Houston Open is in full swing, already delivering plenty of drama on the green after just the first round! While Paul Waring has shot to the top of the leaderboard, our special focus is, of course, on our boys who, after their recent performances, are eager to show what they've got here in Houston. Things got serious right from day one on the 7,475-yard (approx. 6,835 meters) Memorial Park Golf Course.
Lowry Sets the Pace, Power Counters
Shane Lowry, who recently missed the cut at THE PLAYERS Championship, had a really strong start with a solid 69 (one-under par). His round was a mix of ups and downs, including an early birdie on hole 12 and two late birdies, one of which was a solid 7.3-meter (24-footer) on the ninth hole. He is now well-positioned within the T25 range – it's still all to play for!
Seamus Power, who slipped into the field at short notice after several withdrawals, including Scottie Scheffler's, posted an even better 68 (two-under par). He played the par-5 holes excellently (three-under par) and even chipped in for birdie on hole 2. Nevertheless, his cut status after 36 holes (Top 65 and ties) is still uncertain, even though initial rumors circulated. Officially, nothing has been decided yet, and the situation was rather unclear recently. He is provisionally in 31st place.
The Leaderboard: Waring with a Stellar Round!
At the top of the field, there was an absolute stellar round already on Thursday, March 26, 2026! England's Paul Waring took the sole lead with an incredible 63 (seven-under). What an opening! Right behind him lurks Gary Woodland, who also delivered a really strong performance with a 64 (six-under) and is just one shot behind.
