LIV Golf pulls the plug on the Team Championship Final in Michigan and will instead conclude the 2026 season one week earlier in Indianapolis to fully focus on the next chapter. Indianapolis, originally scheduled from August 20-23, thus becomes the grand finale, where both the individual and team titles will be awarded. The planned event in Michigan from August 27-30 is therefore completely canceled.
This surprising course correction doesn't come entirely out of nowhere. Insiders have long spoken of preparations for Michigan being anything but smooth, with even ticket sales stagnating. For LIV, this step is a clear signal to focus all resources on the "next phase" and maintain "operational rigor" during a transitional year.
What This Means for the Season
The LIV Golf Indianapolis event at The Club at Chatham Hills will now be the showdown. There, the league will crown the 2026 individual champion, the top three finishers in the season standings, and the 2026 team champion. While Jon Rahm has already secured the individual title, the battle for the remaining spots and, especially, the team competition will be intense. It's shaping up to be a true final where nerves are likely to be frayed.
The Bigger Plan Behind Pulling the Plug
Behind the scenes, things are already simmering: reports suggest that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund will cease its direct financing by the end of the 2026 season. LIV itself speaks of a deal with a new lead investor for 2027, which, however, is not yet fully finalized. This compression of the final into a single event in Indianapolis is therefore more than just a schedule adjustment – it's the starting gun for a new era that LIV intends to usher in with full force.
Tickets for the canceled Michigan event will, of course, be refunded. And for those who were looking forward to live music in Indianapolis, unfortunately, they'll have to be disappointed: the planned entertainment has also been canceled.
LIV Golf today confirmed that the League's 2026 season finale will celebrate an Indianapolis Champion, the 2026 Season Individual Champion and top three finishers and the 2026 Team Champion at the LIV Golf Indianapolis 2026 Championships. The four-day stroke play event will take
