Bryson DeChambeau and Charles Howell III – that's a name almost synonymous with thrilling duels at LIV Golf Korea. Last year, the two battled head-to-head for the individual title in South Korea, which DeChambeau ultimately won. Now, a year later on a different course in Busan, history seems poised to repeat itself. However, this time, they have unwelcome company at the top.
After the first round at Asiad Country Club, DeChambeau, Captain of Crushers GC, and his teammate Howell III once again sit atop the leaderboard. What an incredible round they delivered! Both carded a 5-under-par 65. But Scott Vincent of HyFlyers GC is also in the mix, performing exceptionally well and shooting a 65 to join them in first place. Three players starting, three on the podium – that's a statement for the rest of the tournament.
The Chasing Pack Puts on Pressure
Just one stroke behind, in a tie for fourth place, lurk the next high-calibre players. Torque GC Captain Joaquin Niemann, Majesticks GC Co-Captain Ian Poulter, and 4Aces GC’s Thomas Pieters are all in contention, just one shot back. It's tight, and things are really heating up! And further back, in a tie for seventh at 3-under-par, we find Ripper GC Captain Cameron Smith, Fireballs GC Captain Sergio Garcia, Southern Guards GC’s Charl Schwartzel, and Majesticks' Laurie Canter.
Pure Excitement in Busan
The first round has shown: this year in South Korea could be even more thrilling than before. DeChambeau has confirmed his reputation as a Korea specialist, but Howell III is eager for revenge, and Vincent naturally wants a piece of the action too. The stage is set for a dramatic weekend – we eagerly await to see who will claim the victory in the end.
