For almost two years, there was silence, but now France's golf icon, Le Golf National, makes a resounding comeback, throwing itself directly into the action: On September 1, 2026, the Albatros masterpiece will be playable again, preparing for the 2026 FedEx Open de France. A revitalization that aims to elevate the course not only visually but, above all, strategically to a new level.
The key role in this transformation is played by the new Paris Metro Line 18, whose construction work has radically altered key holes 4, 5, and 6 of the Albatros course. The result? A layout that is a real challenge not only for pros but is also intended to retain its charm for amateur golfers – just with more bite.
Revitalization for the Albatros Holes
The redesign focused on this three-hole stretch, where the Metro construction site forced a realignment. Hole 4 is now a dogleg left with an elevated green, designed to protect the Metro line. Hole 5 presents itself as a dogleg right from an elevated tee, opening up new perspectives. And Hole 6? Transformed from an old weak point into an upgraded, but tougher Par 4 with a split fairway, additional bunkers, and a narrower green. A total of 17 new bunkers have been strategically placed here to make the game even more exciting.
But the Metro work was just the beginning. Greens on holes 1, 2, 9, and 18 were also overhauled, shorelines re-sculpted, new tees created, and the entire course converted to bentgrass to reduce water consumption. The former academy grounds were demolished and rebuilt. Le Golf National, home of the 2018 Ryder Cup and France's most important tournament course, thus proves once again that it aims to play at the forefront.
