Thriston Lawrence is currently making golf history: At the Omega European Masters, the South African is chasing his third title – a feat that would catapult him directly alongside legend Seve Ballesteros. Currently, things are going really strong for Lawrence, as at the halfway point he has taken the lead by two strokes and is dominating the field on the Severiano Ballesteros Course in Crans-Montana.
The defending champion is well on his way to once again claiming the crown after 2022 and 2025. His second round was an outstanding round, which deservedly put him in pole position. He is not only the defending champion but the man of the hour in Switzerland.
Crans-sur-Sierre: Lawrence's Living Room
The fairways of the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club seem to fit him perfectly. His record on the Severiano Ballesteros Course is simply incredible: Since 2022, he has completed a remarkable 17 rounds under par, and only once has he finished over par. This is not just solid play; this is absolute course dominance, reminiscent of Seve's best days.
The Field Lurks
However, the field isn't sleeping: Ashun Wu got off to a blistering start with an incredible 63 in round one and was initially right at the top. Lawrence himself also shone in round one with a bogey-free 64. The competition is tight, as a total of 14 golfers – some even say 15 – are within five strokes of the lead. Swiss player Joel Girrbach also easily made the cut and is in contention at 16th place.
The tension for the weekend is palpable. Will Thriston Lawrence claim the historic victory and thus erect a monument to himself alongside Seve Ballesteros? The battle for the title is open, and DELOFTED will stay tuned when the ball flies again on Saturday.
