Jetlag? Uihlein 3-Under in Singapore, Open Dream Lives On!

SINGAPORE – Peter Uihlein, RangeGoats GC star, opened the Singapore Open presented by The Business Times with a solid 3-under 68. He overcame the fatigue of a demanding transcontinental journey from LIV Golf Mexico City, which left him “dragging his feet” on the final holes, but still positioned himself for a chance to qualify for The 154th Open. The American landed in Singapore shortly after midnight on Wednesday, leaving him minimal recovery time before teeing off at Sentosa Golf Club – where challenging conditions and physical exertion tested even the most seasoned golfers.

"Honestly, I'm completely worn out," Uihlein said. "We arrived at midnight on Wednesday, so I'm pretty tired. But this week still offers a chance to qualify for The Open, so I don't want to let that slip away." The back nine felt long today – "I was definitely dragging my feet a bit." The weather was also quite demanding, "but at least we got through without any delays, which was nice." Despite the physical strain, the two-time International Series champion once again showed his class, mastering the conditions and remaining firmly in contention, T13 after day one.

Uihlein is no stranger to success on the International Series. In 2024, he secured titles at both the International Series England and the International Series Qatar, and also achieved second-place finishes at the 2024 International Series Thailand and the 2025 Link Hong Kong Open – further solidifying his status as one of LIV Golf's most successful players on the global tour. The 35-year-old was disappointed to have missed the series' season opener in Japan, with Singapore marking his first start of the 2026 campaign. "It's good to be back," he said. "I was actually quite sad to miss Japan this year. I was supposed to go but had some scheduling changes and stayed in Florida instead."

"Still, we were recently here with LIV, so it feels familiar. I didn't need a long practice round. The greens are a bit slower than when we last played here, so I had to adjust on a few putts, but overall it's good to be back."

Although his results in the LIV Golf League this season have included some narrow misses, Uihlein remains confident that his game is moving in the right direction as he continues to search for a breakthrough week. "I haven't played my best golf since the start of the season – top-3 finishes are nice, but a win is definitely what I'm working towards," he admitted. "I tried a few new things in Mexico that felt good and translated a bit today as well. I'll just keep working, keep tinkering, and see what sticks."
