After a 14-year title drought, Scott Jamieson received calls not only from Europe's golf elite, but also from Donald Trump himself. The 42-year-old Scot claimed victory at the Nexo Championship in Aberdeenshire – on home soil, specifically at Trump International Golf Links. And there, it is apparently customary for the US President himself to pick up the phone to congratulate the winner.
A visibly overwhelmed Jamieson thus found himself on Sunday in a video call with the man who leads the USA. He thereby follows in the footsteps of his compatriot Grant Forrest, who claimed the title in 2025. “He was extremely complimentary and it sounded like he had really watched,” Jamieson revealed to BBC Sport. “He said he had followed everything. It’s pretty wild, the guy is, after all, the President of the United States.”
On the course, things were going incredibly well for Jamieson anyway. With a sensational round of 67 strokes on his final scorecard, he catapulted himself to a total of 11 under par. He thus kept England’s Matthew Jordan at bay by two strokes. A crucial up-and-down for par on the 17th hole, while Jordan bogeyed there, sealed the deal and secured Jamieson the title at this European Tour event. “Fourteen years – that’s just insane,” Jamieson could barely believe his luck. “It’s just so damn hard to win. I was patient all day... I still can’t believe I won.”
