Drama surrounding Andrea Pavan: From elevator shaft back on his feet!
Folks, what a shocking moment that occurred last week in South Africa! Our Italian colleague Andrea Pavan provided an update on Instagram that "feels like a miracle" to him: He can stand on his own two feet again – just one week after being discharged from the hospital following an incredible, terrifying fall into an empty elevator shaft.
The 36-year-old broke several vertebrae after falling many stories deep. All of this happened at his accommodation in Stellenbosch, where he was actually preparing for the South African Open. Things really went down, unfortunately not on the green, but in a much more dramatic way.
On Wednesday, there was really strong news on his Insta account: Andrea posted photos with his wife – sometimes in a wheelchair, sometimes already on his own feet with crutches. This was after he had to undergo a major operation. "It truly feels like a miracle to be able to walk again," he wrote.
A big thank you went out to the medical team, his tour colleagues, the organizers, and of course, everyone who supported him. The golf community sticks together, folks! "Many prayers were answered," Pavan said. "The road is still long, but this small step feels really good."
And the road is indeed still long: He must remain in South Africa for another five weeks to treat his shoulder and back and heal further injuries. After that, his rehabilitation journey will continue at home in the USA.
The man is no stranger, by the way: Andrea Pavan is a two-time winner on the European Tour! In 2018, he claimed victory at the Czech Masters, and the following year he triumphed at the BMW International Open. We're keeping our fingers crossed that he'll be back in action soon and thrilling us on the green with spectacular rounds!
