Freddy Schott: Blistering Start, Tough Landing – and What's Next

Folks, hold onto your hats! At the 2026 Hero Indian Open at DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurugram, we were treated to a top-class rollercoaster ride, with a main character who had all of Germany on the edge of its seat: Freddy Schott! We had already reported on his absolutely sensational start, which left the competition in the dust. But golf wouldn't be golf without some brutal setbacks. Freddy showed us everything: genius, fighting spirit – and what happens when a course really bites back.

The Blistering Start: Freddy Goes Full Throttle!

Remember Round 1? That was a statement heard all the way back home! Freddy Schott, our 24-year-old golf ace from Düsseldorf, simply orchestrated the front nine like a maestro. Four birdies on holes 1, 4, 5, and 8 – absolutely flawless! Anyone who delivers such a performance on this beast of a course, the DLF Golf & Country Club, knows what they're doing. The birdie rain continued on the back nine: holes 11, 12, and 15. Although he had to swallow bogeys on 14 and 17, a closing birdie on the 18th sealed a fabulous round of 66 (-6)! This secured him the sole lead. Eugenio Chacarra was already one shot behind, the rest of the field painstakingly battled to stay over par. That was a statement, golfers!

Test of Nerves in the Battle for the Top: Rounds 2 & 3

After this thunderous start, it was clear: Freddy was in the game and wanted more! Expectations were huge, but the DLF Golf & Country Club remained a monster. In Round 2, Freddy carded a 73 (+1). Not a lightning start, but on this course, an absolutely solid performance that kept him in the hunt. The engine kept running smoothly, with some birdies, but also frustrating bogeys, like the back-to-back on holes 6 and 7 on the front nine of his round.

But Freddy wouldn't be Freddy if he let that deter him! Round 3 again showcased his class: A par-round (72 strokes) with strong birdies on 4, 5, 11, 17, and 18 – but also some bogeys. After 54 holes, he stood at a cumulative score of -5! A top result that kept him in a promising position for the final day. The golf world eagerly awaited what our German hopeful would achieve on Sunday. Betting experts at Yellow Square Golf even gave him an almost 50% chance of a top-5 finish – a clear signal of his potential!

The Course Bites Back: The Final Round and the Learning Process

Unfortunately, golf is a game that tests even the greatest talents, and the final day at the DLF Golf & Country Club proved to be a true test of grit. What had looked so smooth in the first three rounds became a real test of patience for Freddy in Round 4. With 80 strokes (+8), he had to considerably lose ground that day. A bogey on holes 3 and 5, another on 9, a double bogey on 10, followed by further bogeys and a double bogey on 18 – the
