Dominic Foos, our 28-year-old from Karlsruhe, now based in Dubai, didn't just win the SJM Macau Open – he opened a massive chapter in German golf history! After an epic playoff, he secured the victory on the Asian Tour. This makes him the first German since golf icon Bernhard Langer (Hong Kong 1996) to triumph on this tour. For Foos, this is not only the second professional title of his career, but also his first in TEN years. You can imagine the immense relief – surely some burdens were lifted from his shoulders!
The path to this mega-title? Absolutely cinematic! Foos started the final day a whopping six strokes behind Thai star Sarit Suwannarut. Sounds like a Mission Impossible, right? But our man delivered an absolutely flawless, phenomenal round of 63, carving his way through the leaderboard with seven birdies and suddenly back in contention! Then came Taiwan's Wang Wei-hsuan, who countered with an incredible 62. The result: both were tied at an unbelievable 17 under par after 72 holes – playoff time! On the first extra hole, both immediately made birdies, a true test of nerves. But on the second extra hole, things got serious: After Wang missed his birdie putt, Foos coolly sank a ten-foot putt for the win. Game, Set, Match! Incidentally, this was the sixth playoff in the history of this legendary tournament.
After this emotional victory, Foos let us peek inside his mind. And what we found was invaluable: “I didn’t really look at the leaderboard the entire day,” he revealed. Only on the 18th tee did he dare a glance at the scoreboard, realizing: A birdie was needed to tie! And BAM, he nailed the shot. For him, this was the ultimate proof that his 'one shot at a time' mentality worked and that he simply didn't let the final-round nerves get to him. Hats off, golfer!
After all the years of setbacks and mental tests, Dominic Foos was eager to thank the people who had supported him: “I’ve always been a hard worker. That’s never been an issue,” said Foos. “But without the incredible support from my family, especially my father, some close friends, and a sponsor like Horst Kramski, this would never have been possible.” Especially during the really tough phases, he learned “who is there for you and who isn't.” This victory in Macau? For him, it's also a huge thank you to his loyal team – a true story of friendship and perseverance.
This mega-success has catapulted Foos from 62nd to 15th in the Asian Tour's Order of Merit! This means: His playing rights for 2026 are secured! And we're talking about potential starts in highly lucrative events like the International Series Philippines. At the same time, this coup sends a strong message to the entire German golf scene: W
