Folks, get ready! Luke Donald is back in action! The master captain has been officially confirmed for the 2027 Ryder Cup at the legendary Adare Manor course in Ireland. And anyone who thinks this is just another job doesn't know Donald very well. He aims to do nothing less than make history: to be the first ever to lead his team to three consecutive victories in this legendary competition!
The 48-year-old Englishman, once the world number one, already led Europe to triumph in Rome in 2023. And as if that weren't impressive enough, he went one better last year (2025, you know) and secured victory at Bethpage Black, New York, as well. Two consecutive wins – he's on a roll!
"The last two Ryder Cups have meant an enormous amount to me and my family," Donald stated in a release from the European Tour. And he added, with a twinkle in his eye, as we suspect: "I never thought this third opportunity would come along!" This will, by the way, be the 100th Ryder Cup, no small occasion, right?
Donald admitted: "After the epic celebrations on Sunday evening in New York, following a week where things really got down to business and the pressure was brutal, I thought my job was done – but perhaps there's still a bit more story to tell."
We're excited to see if he writes his third chapter in the golf history books!
