What a golf thriller unfolded on Sunday at the Danish Golf Championship! Jeff Winther claimed the title on home turf, leaving fellow Dane Rasmus Højgaard behind after an emotional roller coaster. Fans at the Great Northern in Kerteminde witnessed a final that was nerve-wracking until the very last putt.
The showdown culminated on holes 16 and 17. On the 17th, Højgaard crafted an incredible eagle from the bunker, temporarily drawing level with Winther. But the 38-year-old veteran's response was sharp: Winther countered on the par-4 16th with an eagle of his own, having driven his tee shot directly onto the green. He then played solid pars on the final two holes, securing a final score of 15 under par and an outstanding round of 5-under 67.
Danish Duel with a Bitter End
The duel, which had been on a knife's edge until then, reached its turning point on the 18th hole. A bogey from Højgaard sealed his fate and prevented a playoff. Ultimately, three strokes separated the two Danes, granting Winther not only his second DP World Tour title – the first since his Mallorca Open victory in 2021 after nearly five years – but also marking Denmark's 53rd win on the Tour.
The Winner and the Field
Winther triumphed with a total score of 273 strokes. Behind him, Rasmus Højgaard, Filippo Celli, Matthew Jordan, Yanhan Zhou, and Oliver Lindell shared second place, each with 276 strokes. The battle for the $2.8 million prize pot was thus decided, once again demonstrating that home advantage and mental fortitude are crucial in golf.
