What a performance by 17-year-old Anna Huang on Moving Day at the CPKC Women's Open! The Japanese player is truly impressive at 14-under 126, delivering rounds of 62 and 64 and thus tying the tournament's 36-hole record. Right behind her, an armada of Kiara Romero, Soo Bin Joo, and Yuri Yoshida are lurking, all tied for second place (T2). The Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton, a par-70 course measuring 6,452 yards (5,900 meters), offers plenty of drama and a hefty purse of 2.75 million US dollars.
Canada's New Queen?
For Huang, this is a real breakthrough: As a 17-year-old from Vancouver, she has made the cut for the first time in her CPKC Women's Open career, having missed it in 2024 and 2025. A 68 in the second round was a clear statement. She is the best Canadian in the field, and with a total of seven compatriots, Canada had more players making the cut for the weekend than since 1996. Something's brewing! Her form is already very strong; in August, she already claimed four LET titles, including the London Championship.
Mosquitoes and Big Dreams
Even Edmonton's notorious mosquitoes cannot dampen the mood, even though players are struggling with them on the greens. Defending champion Brooke Henderson is also still in contention at 5-under, but faces a difficult challenge with a nine-stroke deficit behind Yamashita. Huang, however, is determined: Having secured her spot for the weekend, she now aims to launch up the leaderboard and get very close to a podium finish.
