Collin Morikawa: Secret to Success Despite Injury 2026

A light swing, a sharp pain in his back – and suddenly Collin Morikawa's 2026 season was turned upside down. An injury in March forced the Major winner to rethink his entire approach. Instead of frantically tinkering with his swing, Morikawa focused on a tough mental reorientation and a return to proven processes.

He had to learn to rewire his brain and not let himself get overwhelmed. It wasn't about a technical revolution, but about the golden rule in golf: consistency in process and equipment is king, especially when the body is protesting. The PGA Tour is currently even dedicating a feature story to this mental battle.

"When you hurt yourself on the golf course for a very light swing, you get freaked out." After suffering a back injury in March, Collin Morikawa was forced to rewire his approach to competition. He grinded to finish 14th on the FedExCup and qualify for the Presidents Cup U.S.

The Putter Plot

This year, Morikawa finally found the putter that's here to stay. The search for the right club on the green has always driven golfers to despair, but in 2026, he seems to have found peace with a custom Spider Tour X setup. This stability is no coincidence; it's part of his new strategy to maintain control despite physical setbacks.

Results in Focus

Morikawa most recently teed it up at the 2025 Procore Championship, where he carded a T43 with an overall -5 (283 strokes). A solid round that proves his new approach is working. It's the quiet confidence that the game still works, even with the handbrake on, when the mental setup is right. For the rest of 2026, we can be excited to see what triumphs Morikawa will still achieve.
